Hi everyone- wow it's already March! January and February have gone, and I haven't posted anything- so today's post will be a little catch-up post!
We found out that our beloved librarian, Mrs. Cummings is sick. We made her cards and a beautiful bouquet of flowers to send her our love.
The Dinosaur unit was a BIG hit- digging for fossil bones, sorting, measuring, and then putting them together just like real paleontologists.
These shape posters are hanging out in the hall- the children wrote the descriptions, then illustrated each poster in groups cooperatively.
Lots of reading going on! |

This has become one of her favorite sayings after treatment! |

We celebrated our friendships on the morning of February 13- school was dismissed early and cancelled the following day due to a snowstorm which kicked off our February vacation.
Lots of love in this room!

The Giving Tree
In the midst of this busy season, we read the book, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Here's part of the conversation, at the end of the book. . .
"There's nothing left of the tree!"
"But the tree is happy. Why is that? (My question)
"Because he was able to give the boy so much, and when you give something to someone it makes both people happy." Truer words were never spoken!
What a gift it is to spend my days with these children!
(On our Giving Tree are gifts we would like to give everyone in the world, here's our list of gifts . . .
a home for everyone, bunnies, food for everyone, money for the homeless, a surprise present, flowers, book, seeds to plant, Yogibos, trees, carrots, a boat, guinea pigs, pools for everyone to swim in, cats and dogs, a pig, a map for everyone so they could always find their way home, and last but not least Love.

Whoooo Can Find a Pattern?
In October and November our science unit was Night and Day. A favorite part of this unit is learning about nocturnal animals. In math we have been working with the concept of pattern. This digital story is a culminating project that combines story telling, patterns, art, and photography. We really enjoyed making it. The children especially like to hear their voices, see their photos and imagine their owls flying away in the night sky...
Welcome!
Welcome to Mrs. Tierney's Kindergarten blog for the 2013-2014 School Year. Although, I am familiar with blogging, this is my first, real attempt to really use a blog as a communication tool for parents. I am looking forward to sharing anecdotes, digital learning, and pictures! Enjoy!
